Queer Jams: "The Gaylist" is the Ultimate Playlist for LGBTQ+ Music Lovers

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

Hey there music lovers! If you're looking for a playlist that celebrates the incredible talent and diversity within the LGBTQ+ community, then look no further than "The Gaylist". Curated by The Other Realm, this playlist is packed with catchy tunes by LGBTQ+ artists from all over the world.

One thing that makes "The Gaylist" stand out is its cover art. The playlist icon is borrowed from a painting entitled "Limp Wrist" by Edmund Liang, a queer artist based in California. It's a colorful and playful depiction of a hand with a limp wrist, a gesture that has been historically used to mock and belittle gay men. By reclaiming this gesture and turning it into a work of art, Liang celebrates the strength and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community.

Now, let's talk about the music. "The Gaylist" features a mix of rising stars and established artists, all of whom are making waves in the music industry. You'll find pop divas like Kim Petras and Troye Sivan, as well as indie darlings like Myylo, Mike Taveira, Harry Strange, and myself! These artists are breaking down barriers and paving the way for a more inclusive and accepting music industry.

Here's a little bit about some of my favorite songs in the playlist:

  • "Bored to Tears" by Myylo: I stumbled across this track a few years ago, and it sums up modern dating, especially among gay men in my experience. 10/10 bop!

  • "Gross" by Nicky Buell: I just heard this song for the first time a few days ago, and I'm obsessed with how campy and snarky it is. Those are two of my favorite qualities in any song, so it had to go in the playlist.

  • "demons" by Hayley Kyoko: This track has been one of my favorite songs since the first time I ever heard it. I stan Hayley Kyoko, and "demons" is such a bop.

  • "Fogos Por Toda Cidad" by Mike Taveira: If you follow the queer music scene at all, you should know that Mike Taveira is *zaddy* and legit releases nothing but bops. A lot of his tracks are high-energy and ultra-sexy, but this one is a little more lowkey.

  • "nosebleeds" by Harry Strange: I'm new to Harry Strange, but "nosebleeds" came on my New Music mix recently and I'm hooked. He's got a really cool style that relies on a lot of acoustic guitars and has an atmospheric feel.

  • "All The Cute Boys Are Robots" by The Other Realm: You didn't expect me to leave myself off the list, did you? This is one of my favorite tracks I've ever released and was actually the inspiration for this playlist!

Soooo, that's a sneak peek, but there are tons more tracks in the playlist by some of my favorite musicians. If you're looking to support and uplift queer artists, give "The Gaylist" a listen. It's a celebration of the incredible talent and diversity within the LGBTQ+ community, and a reminder that our stories and experiences are so unique and important.
